An excerpt from a real-life scene in our house today as PC continues to educate me about normal human feelings.
Me: I don't see what the big deal is with Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon dying. They were all old and sick. It's not a big shocker.
PC: How mean! People are really gonna miss them.
Me: Well, sure, their friends and family will. But it's not like they've done anything important in their fields for, like, 25 years.
PC: But for people who remember those times, it's a big deal.
Me: Why? They didn't know Michael Jackson personally. They didn't have a relationship with him or anything.
PC: But back in the day, people really loved him. He meant something to people. How would you feel if it was someone famous you really liked? How would you feel if Beyonce died?
Me: Oh. That would be a very sad day. Who would I look up to after she's gone?
PC: See?
Me: Whatever. I don't think you're ready for this jelly.
So, to Jacko, Farrah and Ed McMahon, you are indeed missed. And to Beyonce, please don't die, girl. Nobody can shake it like you.
